Tower on Top

Max Photography. has added a photo to the pool:

Tower on Top

This image is part of the 'Frames in Space' project/series I'm currently working on. Producing wall art for a major company, the only requirement was that I showcase the best sights of Canberra and I wanted to do so in a new light. So I chose to frame the beautiful attractions in this city - but within the image. Given that the actual print will reside on a huge frameless slab of glass, the frame within the frame concept (literally!) will be a key element. For this shot, aside from the fairly heavy post processing, I framed the famous Telstra tower with a highly reflective silver photo frame (so it would grab ambient colours and specular highlights) that was stuck on a piece of glass so it 'floats'. It was strobed at 1/32 power from camera right. The frame was then removed and the tower was focused on, finally layering the two images. I must admit, that adjusting DOF didn't really help that much to get both the frame and tower in focus; also hyperfocal distance required that I place the frame quite further away, which was really not an option as I was on the side of the highway - eventually I resigned myself to layers.
