The Artist - Briony Howell

Between Planets has added a photo to the pool:

The Artist - Briony Howell

Briony is a young, up-and-coming artist based in Crawley. She asked me to take photographs of her latest works prior to her forthcoming exhibition at the New Artist Fair taking place at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, London, from 14-16th September.

She is pictured here with some of those latest works, which all have a London theme, ranging from the works that show recognizable London landmarks (eg, the Tower Bridge painting she is holding with the topical olympic rings showing, as well as those of Thames vistas) to those that are clearly metropolitan street views but engages the viewer to guess the vantage point. For example, the painting on the wall above her head includes Big Ben but it is only on careful inspection that you may notice the reflection of a large column structure on the front of the big red bus that places the scene (feel free to submit your guesses in the comment section below!). Her work is also interesting because of their texture - the 3 works in the brown frames are painted on what looks like a collage of scrap paper and card, which sometimes intentionally peeks through from under the paint (eg, at the top of the painting on the floor in front of her).
