One of my favorite types of portrait sessions is working with expecting mothers to capture their "baby bumps." This is a relatively recent development in portraiture and has gotten really big in the past few years as a genre. It's fun to try new things and to capture those memories for the mom-to-be.
I have been lucky enough to have a couple of different models who were expecting over the past couple of years and even more fortunate to have them be willing to let me shoot their maternity shots. Lindsey is one of them and I'll admit I was a bit worried when I knew she was expecting in the winter. I'm normally a location shooter, but I challenged myself to make the most of the interior of my studio as much as possible. I'm pretty happy with the outcomes as was Lindsey.
About This Shot
Probably my favorite shot from the entire session... I knew I wanted some very subtle soft lighting and this shot was actually a fluke during my lighting tests. You can't really tell, but the shutter speed is too high for the flash, which is why the right side has a dropoff in light from Lindsey's belly! Sometimes the lighting gnomes are on your side...
Strobist Info
