Self Portrait - Retouching practice

Victor W. has added a photo to the pool:

Self Portrait - Retouching practice

Finally sat down and delved into a bit of retouching work.

First time doing this with nothing but my Ubuntu Linux system using GIMP, Rawtherapee and firmly crossed fingers!
Bit of a pain not having adjustment layers but it doesn't take long before you work out alternatives and land up with lots and lots of layers! Just as well I popped some more memory into the PC ;-)

That jacket? Ha, must've been in and out of fashion at least three times since I bought it! That's if it was ever in 'fashion' in the first place ;-) Not that I've ever been one to follow fashion but it's black, it's leather and it's a bit smarter than a biker jacket, (so my wife forgives me when we go out to a restaurant, unlike if I wear my bike leathers!)

Lighting - My DIY modified Vivitar 550's. One on a Konig stand mid/low viewer left, the other high viewer right, both bare at about 1/4 power or 8w/s. (The harsh shadows and glow off my nose means I should've really diffused them.)
Main light, my DIY Studio Light on axis with my home made umbrella set about 1/4 power so 25w/s.

The background? A grey blind that had been discarded, repaired by me and mounted to my box room bedroom wall, (tiny space for both office and make shift studio!) So all the lighting gear and set up including the editing software cost pretty much bugger all, which suits me fine :-)

(Yep, lighting still isn't right but did the job for now to practice a workflow with Linux.)

Before & After image including brief details of the retouching process.
