Ancient Temple, Bagan, Mandalay Division, Burma.

Flash Parker has added a photo to the pool:

Ancient Temple, Bagan, Mandalay Division, Burma.

We met this really great couple from Poland on our trip to Burma. Neither of them had been to Asia before, so I had to give them props for starting out in Burma when few others would.

The couple fancied themselves amateur photographers, and had a few questions for me as we went along, many specifically to do with shooting at night and/or off-camera flash photography. Being that I am a fan of both of these genres, we rolled out into the hills before sunrise for a workshop of sorts. We had a blast - we rode rickety old bicycles along the dusty dirt roads of Bagan until we found a temple that we liked, then we set to work. We talked about using artificial light sources to illuminate large objects (in this case a spotlight at the base of the temple) and how you can add your own fill with a powerful torch (never leave home without it!).

Our friends had quite a few questions for me as we went along, and I tried my best to answer them. When one of my answers was unsatisfactory, our friends called me out on it. "But I read on this blog that you do it this way..." they said. I said that the blogger must be an idiot. That doesn't sound right! "You're right," they said. "That Flash Parker guy is always making stuff up."

In a career full of embarrassing moments, this one almost certainly tops the lit.
