52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.
Today marks the Eighteenth creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be a recreation from a famous painting, while others will be recreations of various movie poster or album covers and some will be remakes of famous images of the 20th century.
“Princess with a Pearl Earring” is my interpretation of Johannes Vermeer’s portrait of "Girl with a Pearl Earring".
Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon Vermeer’s painting. Truth be told, I’ve wanted to do this one for a while now. The trick was gathering all the right fabrics, which I’ll have to admit are not perfect. There is a lot of mystery and controversy behind Vermeer’s paintings and the Girl with a Pearl Earring is no exception. The Girl with a Pearl Earring is considered by many to be the “Mona Lisa of the North” or the “Dutch Mona Lisa”. Nothing is truly known about the woman in the painting; similarly to da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The idea of using Princess Leia as the subject for both of these works (check out week six for the The Mona Leia) is due in part to the fact that her past is also a mystery to most of the Empire and Republic; there are only a select few who know her true identity...
Enjoy!
