Rhymin'

Rhymin'

I'm running a bit behind in my goal to release monthly Suburban Rapper covers, but I finally have April's done. Kristin was a good sport and stepped in quite nicely. While we were at it, we tried out several ideas and I even took a few frames of her friend, Hayden (my jacket looked pretty good on him).

My initial idea for the cover was something along these lines, except with the subject screaming in a profile view. In the end, though, I decided another shot best conveyed the superficial toughness of a "suburban rapper."

Sidenote--she was singing Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" while shooting this. As it turns out, she's a pretty darn good singer.

strobist: 1 White Lightning x1600, above camera, diffused by a Mola Demi with stacked PAD and Opal diffusers. 2 White Lightning Ultrazap 1600s, camera right and left, diffused by gridded stripboxes. 1 Canon 580EX, directly above subject, bare, used as hair light. 1 Quantaray shoe-mount flash, behind subject (at bottom of background, pointed up), bare. There was a white reflector, low, to add a bit of fill. The x1600 was triggered via Cybersyncs; all other lights triggered via optical slave. Setup shot (and description of how the background was made) here.
