RSX Lighting Before-After

Small Time Visionary has added a photo to the pool:

RSX Lighting Before-After

Decided to try a new lighting technique that I came across on the Strobist blog and FStoppers some time ago, featuring architectural photographer Michael Kelley. Decided to go small scale first. Obvious to me now, a reflective surface offers even more of a challenge. Please feel free to critique my image!

Image info:
- Canon 5D Mark II
- EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
- One 580EXII Speedlight
- Pair of Pocketwizard Plus II with remote sync cable to wirelessly fire the shutter
- Pocketwizard Flex and Mini ControlTL triggers to wirelessly fire the speedlight

Image is composed of 17 seperate images. I walked around the scene with my speedlight mounted on the end of a monopod and wirelessly triggered the camera and flash as I added artificial light to fill the car from all angles. In Photoshop, I masked the layers and revealed the lit sections that I wanted to keep. Added adjustments to the sky and foreground.

I did a really shitty job of removing the building to the far left and the lighting is not even but this exercise was more about learning more about artificial lighting and layer masking.

Plenty was learned and I still have a long way to go. I'm not completely satisfied with the final result; I know that the lighting is way too artificial looking, but it's progress! A really tedious but fun technique that could offer some tremendous results when done right!
