My wife and I were driving into town and I realized that the setting sun was perfect for a back/sidelit portrait. We pulled over and set up on some random concrete blocks.
I only had one tripod with me (and no lightstand), so I had to rig something for the flash/umbrella holder I had with me. I tried to stack some of the concrete blocks higher, but when I tried to pick one up, it cut my thumb and I had to tend to the bleeding. After that, it seemed like a good idea to leave the blocks where they were and set up the umbrella on the waist-level blocks that were already there. I'm happy with the mix of flash from the left and setting sun from the right.
Nikon 35mm 1.8G; YN560 w/shoot-through umbrella to cam left, 10-sec self-timer on camera.
