AT-ATs (low-fi)

AT-ATs (low-fi)

This is the low-fi version of this, using silver efex 2, really heavy film grain and a few other bits. Prefer it personally. Set-up shot here.

I have been looking at picking up a big version of the AT-AT star wars walker from ebay, but started small.

Built a small Hoth style set using some left over bits of plasterboard and leftover floor tile adhesive, which literally took 30 mins to make and one day to set. Sprinkle liberally with some cornflour using a sieve as the set is drying to get the snow look. I used a bit of snow from a can to also add snow for a different texture and to snowify the walkers. The sky is a bit of blue paper.

Lighting:
- 3 speedlights all wirelessly triggered
- 1 to left of camera and in front of set, 1/32th power, gelled light blue
- 1 to right of camera and behind set, 1/32th power, gelled light blue
- 1 to left of camera and behind set, 1/16th power also gridded and gelled yellow to give the "sun" look and to cast a nice shadow.

I only have two walkers, so this is a composite of 5 shots (5th for the falling snow).

I did a bit of texturing of the lead walker in photoshop to make it look less like a tiny plastic model.

Bit of fun, took about 1.5 hours all told really.
