These two are my kids. They were up for a test shoot before a friend's party they were dressed up for.
I used a beauty dish on the left, aimed sort of to the right. I think I got the feathered light I was looking for. I did do some curves adjustment though, to lessen the background. I also used UFRaw to manage color temp, which I intentionally made a tad bit warm. The image was sharpened in Gimp with a grain extraction method, which sharpens the edges more than textures.
Since the exif wasn't preserved: 1/200th, f9, iso200, focal length 43.6mm DX and 66mm FX.
